Marina Lee, President and FounderThe counsellors at Cogita Education Initiatives encourage a high level of critical thinking on the self. Recognizing that it takes a village to raise a child and support them in their self-discovery, Cogita Education Initiatives extends their work beyond admissions guidance and fosters personal growth through holistic and personalized approach. Cogita empowers students to become their best selves, equipping them with the skills and confidence to navigate the academic landscape as well as the real world.
Cogita Education Initiatives embodies this philosophy, providing young learners with a well-rounded support system in which they are encouraged to explore, evaluate and define their individual values, identity, talents and skill sets. For the younger students, Cogita supports the parents and guardians in their child’s development in the current educational landscape.
“As mentors who have worked with hundreds of families, we have gained invaluable experiences about the successes and challenges found in one’s educational journey. Our deep knowledge of admissions and focus on care and kindness, combined with the commitment to a student’s authentic growth, ethics and societal contribution, makes us the perfect guides,” says Marina Lee, president and founder.
Cogita’s student-centric approach helps reduce academic stress and supports the students’ alignment with their individual strengths and aspirations. The counselors guide students in selecting courses that match their interests and activities, complementing academic goals to maintain a healthy balance between schoolwork and emotional well-being. Through this process, the students gain confidence in who they are and the strengths they bring to others. They don’t need to do an activity that will “get them into college,” as this act in itself is disempowering. It says to students I need to be someone else.
Cogita instead has a keen understanding of students’ strengths from the beginning and guides students on character development, academics, activities and admissions, fostering personalized opportunities that reflect students’ individuality. Cogita’s students are thoughtful, aware and kind. They value genuineness, and that's how they approach the admissions process, making them ideal candidates for schools, colleges and graduate schools, whether domestic or global.

Cogita conducts regular campus visits and meetings with admissions officers and alums located all across the U.S. and the world to provide well-informed school and university recommendations. The counselors continuously refines a tailored list of institutions based on each student's evolving preferences.
The educational organization, in the truest sense of the word, actively involves parents throughout the admissions process, valuing their input in creating a balanced framework. The counselors hold regular meetings with guardians and provide structured talking points and discussion prompts that encourage open conversations between them and students for better understanding.
This approach has resulted in students succeeding academically and growing into responsible citizens. Extensive studies and analysis of student outcomes have revealed exceptional acceptance rates among Cogita students—even at highly selective schools with national acceptance averages of just 1–20 percent, wherein Cogita students saw rates between 10–40 percent. This track record of finding the best fit and most selective schools and universities in the world is a testament to Marina and Cogita’s counselors’ dedication over 25 years of operation as well as their unsurpassed knowledge of admissions.
A notable example involves a high school girl, filled with shyness and self-doubt, lacking the confidence to participate in school activities or join a club. She often questioned her introverted nature and ability to serve the community. Cogita’s collective 200 years of experience with a broad spectrum of students from all backgrounds and ethnicities enabled team Cogita to see the potential in the girl, which she didn't see herself.
Cogita guided her in reflecting on the various aspects of life using various assessment exercises, including a series of reflective questions and visual learning techniques. These exercises helped her realize how introspective and mature she was, boosting her confidence. She created a ‘happiness wall’ filled with positive quotes for her school, designed a support deck for first-year students and introduced pop-up mental health rooms for student relaxation. Embracing her strengths, she became president of the mental health wellness club, founded a happiness club and served as student council secretary. Cogita helped her embrace her trait as an asset and helped channel that in ways that helped her feel confident stepping outside her comfort zone.
These achievements are attributed to the external guidance provided by Cogita and the students' ability to deeply understand themselves, their motivations and goals. For students, choosing Cogita opens the gate for a non-transactional relationship built on mutual growth and learning. The company’s experience and commitment to ethical global engagement continuously shape young learners into confident individuals who find much success in school, college, graduate school and beyond.
